Mechanical 4-Bar Knee

The 4-bar mechanism consists of four links (bars) connected by pivot joints (hinges). The pivot joints are located at the knee joint and ankle joint.
The mechanical 4-bar knee is designed to provide stability during the stance phase of walking and a controlled swing phase. During the stance phase, the knee joint is locked, providing a stable platform for the amputee to stand on. During the swing phase, the knee joint unlocks, allowing the prosthetic leg to swing forward and mimic the natural motion of the knee joint.
